Clockworks

Work in Progress
Set in rural Massachusetts, this feature documentary offers an intimate portrait of one of the last remaining clock restoration companies in the United States and the people who keep it ticking. Surrounded by quiet woodlands, the steady beat that fills the workshop becomes a meditation on how humans shape, hold, and release time.

At the center of the film is a small team of locals keeping the rhythms of a nearly vanished trade alive and caring for each other in the process. Anchored around their unique perspectives on time, CLOCKWORKS is a love letter to the everyday philosopher. James, the company’s one of a kind founder, started Clockworks Inc. almost twenty years ago, bringing in generations of his family to sustain a craft that formerly defined this corner of Southern New England. Once a thriving hub of American clock-making, the region now bears the traces of industrial decline. Yet inside this workshop, James’ humor, curiosity, drive, and unorthodox approach move this time honored tradition into the 21st century.

The meticulousness of the craft and the stability of the work offer a refuge where rough pasts are healed, livelihood is provided, and family is cared for. As the team restores the mechanisms that measure our days, they reveal an unexpected truth: time, so often seen as fixed and linear, is something deeply human, elastic, and alive.

This short is also being developed into a feature.
